HW 39 - Insights from Book - Part 2

1. list several topics/areas the book has taught you about that the "Business of Being Born" either ignored or treated differently or in less depth.
-Mostly during the first hundred pages of Ina May's Guide to Childbirth is where I was taught about the business of being born. The stories that were told, helped me understand how birth is thought of. like when some women want to have a home birth, while others want a hospital birth. This shows that there are different feeling towards giving birth.

2. The major insight the book tries to communicate in the second 100 pages (1-3 sentences) and your response to that insight (2-4 sentences).
-Sphincter Law is the major insight this part of the book was trying to communicate."Sphincters are circular muscle groups that ordinarily remain contracted so the openings of certain organs are held closed until something needs to pass through."p.170 This explains why women choose women, as support when giving birth. Basically if your sphincter is closed, you aren't feeling comfortable. I now understand somewhat more about what sphincters are based on reading about them. The definition definitely helps me understand it more, and possibly connect it to the human body, and to others.

3.List 5 interesting aspects of pregnancy and birth discussed in the second hundred pages that you agree deserve wider attention
-the definition of Sphincter law (p.170)
-knowledge of birth coming from a television screen?(p.164)
-How Nancy's husband helped her deliver.(p.109-110)
-What you need to know about your pregnancy, and parental care.(p.183)
-The underestimated importance of good nutrition(p.187)

This piece of evidence indicates what sphincter's law is. It is as Ina May explained it. Her definition of Sphincter's law was accurate.
